----------------- Now I don't hardy know her but I think I could love herCrimson & Clover I wish wish she'd come walking over. -----------------
Watching the candle flicker Out in the evening glow I can't let go When will the night be over I didn't mean to fall in love with you The evening was warm, almost balmy when she finally finished in her class room. She had the desks set up the way that she wanted to and the room had small enchantments from the ceiling. Small motes of light danced down from it. Lily nodded her head in satisfaction at the way the room looked. It was now perfect. The little twinkles was an enchantment that would linger there for the rest of the year. Changing only for holidays. Her desk when she'd been a student there was still in the corner and it made her smile. She had done alot of work in this class. Pleanty of extra credit. The only other room she spent more time in was the Dungeon and the Potion's Classroom. Which also brought a shadow of a smile to her face. If only because of the Professor that taught the class. She had heard the rumors of how he was in school. Lily had no doubt he could be ten times worse than that if he was really in a mood. Lily had seen him at his worst. He had far more discipline now and she felt the students should probly feel fortunate they didn't get it worse.
That done she returned to her rooms all the Professors had them and Lily's was done up very much in memory of the Gryffindor Head Girl's Room. Her bed had a rich velvet blanket of bright red. It was huge took up much of the room. She was fairly certain it could support all her children bouncing on it. They could all also sleep in the thing and not be crowded. She switched out of her School Robes and into something lighter for the weather. She chose a simple white dress. Something similar to what Lilith liked to wear, only the sleeves covered up her hands. The gown buttoned rather than laced and it was light for the balmy weather. Which broke and rained like she knew it would. She was unconcerned of being caught in the rain. Lily enjoyed it she didn't mind the sudden showers. She'd been caught in one a little bit back. Was perfectly fine now her hair fell in the loose curls it tended to with the humidity of the weather. She choose a simple green ribbon to tie it back tucking her wand into that as well. She would go into the woods barefoot because she knew the path she was going to take and had taken time and time before. Her minds eye could pick it out with ease. Oh she knew that she could get in trouble for slipping off there when she was in school. Sometimes one had to break the rules to have some space to themselves.
She didn't have Snowflake with her here she had left Snowflake at home to keep a watch over her children for the night. It was kind of lonely now that she thought about it. She had grown to love the tempermental, possesssive and some what mean at times cat that Severus had gifted her with. Still Nox was sitting on his perch watching her dress and move about with curiosity following her movement. If a creature could actually have the little hearts around it. That creature would have been Nox. Lily added a simple leather arm brace to her wrist and held her arm out to him. "Come on than, what are you waiting for Nox ?" she asked as she swept the heavy black velvet hood around her frame. Nox tottered on his perch but than swooped with the grace he had to have borrowed from somewhere else to land on her bracer and only bumped lightly into Lily's chest not hard enough to take her from her feet. She cooed at the little bird and brushed her nose lightly across the dark feathers. Normally she'd have sent Nox to Severus. The bird had a keen ability to find Severus even when it couldn't figure out how to get home. Severus didn't have to tease her that the bird would be Gryffindor and she didn't have to mention that Snowflake would be Slytherin it was just sort of a fact.
Rather than risk it she summed up the softer memories of being pushed on the swing. Of flying that first time and the quiet conversations about magic. Her wand sweeping into her free hand as again she called forth her patronus. Still the silvery light took the shape of a doe glowing and glittering prancing around her because Lily was in a pleasent mood which made the magic all the more powerful."Gone..hunting for Asphodel." she told the Patronus which nodded its head and bounced out the window disappearing downwards as it went. She knew Severus would be in. The mere sight of that Patronus would tell him who sent it. The only time things became complicated was when they both sent Patronus's at the same time. It was odd to share one but not unheard of. Still with the note sent the Charms Professor hurried from her rooms and down the hall. Empty halls at the moment but ones that would be filled with students soon. The sooner the better in her opinion. Lily held a high opinion of Dumbledore for all the things he'd done in her time here, and for all the things he had done for her personally. Still Lily couldn't help but think that Albus Dumbledore knew more than he'd ever admit about his new Charms Mistress and Potions Master.
The forest was always so magical at night, more so after a rain the soft droplets of water on the leaves caught her attention. The glisten shimmer from the moon that was not quiet full yet. Her face turned to the partly cloudy sky with the sprinkling of stars across the velvety surface where she could see through the branches. It was dangerous to be in the woods at night. This was a fact, however Lily was very good at Care of Magical Creatures and she knew what to expect. Also what to guard against. She nudge Nox up into the trees. "Remember to mind the bats here." she whispered to Nox. Her wand swished and tapped the little owl. Which had a little shield wrapped around his person. Lily watched him flutter up into the trees, again not well. Wincing when he missed the intial branch he was suppose to be on. Landed happily on the next one down. Her bare feet led her along the familiar paths, to the small glade that was her favorite as a girl. It had enchantments on it of course. Years of enchantments since she'd first found it. Mostly to keep bad out. It was her favorite spot. It had been their favorite spot. Lily still scanned the ground seeking the plants she was looking for both of which were components in one of draughts that was quiet deadly.
Still she found colorful Lilies one of the things that had drawn her there. She glanced around as though expecting to be caught like she would have as a girl. Her hand passed over them and they bloomed beneath her fingers caress. She choose a few and nimble fingers wove them into a Lily crown for herself.Which she dropped onto her hair making sure they didn't catch on the wand residing there. Her wanderings weren't aimless just quiet with fond old memories. There was thick carpets of Moss that comforted her feet. Huge trees with deep roots to prowl around. Lily was amazed by how much the forest florished but how much it was always the same.

WALK BLINDLY TO THE LIGHT and reach out for his hand .don't ask any questionsAND DON"T TRY TO UNDERSTAND• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Preparations for the school year had been well underway in earnest for the past week. Severus’ had been done some time ago though he had had a few last minute jobs that had to be done at that time in interest of freshness in regards to ingredients. He would not say it to anyone, but this was a good time for him to simply be. He loved potions, he was not the nicest of teachers but he did not find it altogether objectionable. Other than meetings on both sides, in the last weeks before school started he could forget his double role and be busy doing, really, what he was born to do even if he would prefer that his classroom was that belonging to the Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor. It was a little odd, his role in the war. He had the complete and unfailing trust of the figureheads on both sides, of Albus Dumbledore and the Dark Lord, both believed him to be their man, though in the case of at least one of them it was his puppet. Other than those, he had little trust from either side, Lily perhaps trusted him more than everyone else put together. Severus was not the easiest of Professors to learn under, it had to be said, part of it was his role, another was perhaps how he had become jaded over time in most respects. Still, he had time for those willing to learn.
Severus was rarely in a different style of robes to those he taught in. His clothes before school had not been so good, they were so mismatched that it was almost a deliberate action. When things got worse at home, it was, not that his parents did anything about it. Severus’ rooms were one big potion lab and that was pretty much it. There was a bed, and there was furniture, they were even comfortable, but he more frequently worked her than lived here, to a degree it was the same at Spinner’s End, he had not taken time for many pleasures as a child, outside of Lily and trips to the cinema in which they both scared themselves silly (but wouldn’t admit it even if they both knew the other was scared) of Wolfman. But those were simpler days, and in a way what they were fighting for was a world where children could be that carefree, or at least closer to the situation as it had been with Severus, those moments where they could forget about everything else. They had needed the place to themselves in the forest, especially after they had been caught in the bathroom together. That had not been their last time in the bathroom, they had just had to be careful for a while.
Severus had bought Snowflake and Candycorn for Liliy and Lilith, In the case of the latter, Lilith had wanted a black kitten and he had had the time to go and find one. Snowflake, on the other hand, had been a surprise Severus had sprung on Lily, a kneazle was always going to be of use, and these were times when loyalty and a good sense of judgement when it came to character, not to mention simply an extra pair of eyes at times, were more than welcome. It was true that Snowflake would have been a Slytherin, she had managed to somehow kick Severus and Lily out of bed, how that had happened neither of them were still quite sure, but there it was. Severus did joke that Nox would have been a Gryffindor, especially after he had had the wall opposite his window padded for the poor brain addled bird.
Severus looked up from a set of notes as the patronus entered his room. He smiled to himself as the message was spoken and he figured out quite well that Lily wasn’t just in the forest for ingredients. It certainly would be nice to just spend time with her. Being sure that her doe was gone, he summoned up the memory of playing in the park with her as children and a doe of his own formed in the air, sending back a message that he would help her look. Dumbledore had Severus’ loyalty, he would do what he could, which was easier than it might have been because both sides expected him to give a little to the enemy if it meant staying in their good graces. He was also shrewd, Severus had no doubt that he knew of he and Lily either.
The forest was well known to Severus. He found his own ingredients here and it had been quite restful more than once, word tends to spread and he had not taken well to being disturbed by big nasty forest dwellers, even if, as some were minotaurs, they could tear him limb from limb. He knew Lily’s haunts quite well and he certainly knew their favourite, so he was not going to be too long in getting there given his long legs and usually quick pace.
He slowed as he caught a flash of red hair. His hand trailed out and he snagged a lily in passing, twirling it between his index and middle fingers as his voice quietly sounded his arrival, “How does your search go, my Princess?” It was a play on the name that Lily had for him, given that he had taken to calling himself the Halfblood Prince in his youth, and she certainly looked the part with a crown of Lilies adorning her head.

----------------- Now I don't hardy know her but I think I could love herCrimson & Clover I wish wish she'd come walking over. ----------------- The
time that Lily spent working in her classroom was always rewarded and she knew that Charms would be the focus of many a students interest so she endeavoured to make it as interesting as she could. Already the school had seemed awake with Magic as though it too was excited to have another year of students through its hallowed doors. She had even helped put charms on the Potion's classroom to make sure some of the first years(and less than skilled second year) students didn't blow themselves up. That it gave them time alone together was also something that Lily enjoyed even if it was just working quietly. She knew he wanted to be the Defense Against Dark Arts Teacher, but she also knew that none of there DADA teachers lasted very long. Even when they had been students there. It seemed it was a rotating door. It was Lily's opinion that it was safer in Potions. No chance of foul play befalling him. Lily trusted him more than anyone did because she loved him because no one else trusted him, because Lily saw the best in people no one else seemed able to. He had made mistakes, if you continued to brand a person for a mistake weren't you just as bad ? She knew where his loyalty was and why. She was his reason as much as he was her's for playing the role she did. It never mattered to Lily what he wore she was happy just being around him. Lily had seen him in his mis-matched clothing. She never said anything of it nor had she seen a reason too. There was more to Severus than his appearance. She had enjoyed his company, the sound of his voice when he talked to her. When he was so sure of himself rather than silent and reserved because of his parents, or because Tuney was around. Lily made him home in Spinners End liveable because she was often there. She knew he prefered the library to anywhere else in the house when not in his lab. Though they did spend a fair amount of time in his kitchen. It wasn't the same at school since she hadn't helped decorate there. Since Potions work was often shared by them. Lily and Severus had often gone to the Monster Mash on the weekends at the local cinima. She was very good at putting on a brave front, but when it got towards night and she was alone in the dark. Well..it was still a guilty pleasure to watch the Classical old movies and be scared all over again. The Forest was a mystery it was creepy but there was also something romantic about it be it night or day. Especially the small area she had found that had become her favorite spot. With the moss making a comfortable bed on the ground. It was better padded than the floors in the School. Wither snuggling or studying either way it was nice. Things knew better than to bother either of the pair when they had been students now it was just a death wish. The kitten she had known about because they had agreed Lilith should have a cat maybe a familiar for her once she was older. For Lily it had been quiet the surprise to be given a Kneazle the cat had taken right to her thought. So she really couldn't fault him. Kneazles choose there own owners in a manner that most people simply would never understand. It had been a touching gift to say the least and she did love the cat. Even if it chose to own her.The red haired witch had a time explaining to it that it certainly did not want to swipe at James because he was often in a bad mood. Even than if she did, her coin would be on the cat. She'd seen a cat at its meanest.Lily had not provoked or elected such a response from it at least not yet. It had managed to kick Severus and her out of his bed which Lily wasn't even clear on how that had managed to happen. They were bigger than the cat. Apparently it had hidden powers for exsausted people. The two of them had just slept on the floor with a blanket.Yes if pets could be sorted into Houses than there's certainly would have been Slytherin and Gryffindor respectively. Since all either of them could truely say of Nox was the following thing. The first being that Nox was pretty, Nox was Loyal,Nox could find Severus even when he didn't know his way home. Snowflake was a Kneazle and she was opinionated, playful and given to mothering Lily as she mothered others. It was also very Slytherin. When he was at school Lily always tended to send her Patronus to him since she knew it would find him. Though it still rarely delievered any news that could be used by anyone else since Severus knew very well Lily's mind so half spoken words were not so to him.Much like he had understood what Lily had mentioned with her message. No Lily was not in the forest just to pick ingrediants, she was also there to enjoy the forest, and of course she would enjoy his company if he joined her. Which she suspected he would it was like that for them they tried to meet as often as they could. Lily had the privilage of knowing to much really. She knew what was going on with both sides but she was only one woman and she felt responsiable towards Severus and so to that end she didn't often let alot slip. She wasn't so naive as to think Wars did not bring about death one way or another. However, it was still something worth fighting for.No she did not feel she had a right to decide who lived or died, but she did have a responsiability to the living, to her heart and to there cause. Dumbledore had told she and Severus when they had been in school to just not get caught in the bathroom. Lily suspected it was because Severus defended her even to his own Head of House. There was no pointing fingers at each other that most students tended to.That he'd gotten so upset over it spoke alot where Lily was sitting calmly by still in his robe. She suspected he knew very well when Lily came to him with Severus and she wore the heart locket the only thing that had kept them apart was there falling out with that patched up, things would only progress.Lily wondered if he always knew. Lilith was just solid proof but Lily was as proud of her daughter as she was of her sons. On more than one occassion while others went into Hogsmead Lily had slipped off with him to the Forest just for that time alone. It had been nice to be able to stay overnight. Even than Severus had, had a liking for robes bigger than him. So they made a good blanket and moss an excellent bed. The creatures in the forest were something Lily understood and knew how to deal with. While her Prince was quicker with a wand than she was, Lily had an array of spells. Individually they were scary, together they were epic. When his returned doe found her and told her to expect him she beamed at the twin to her Patronus and dipped her head to him. She knew that he would be there soon. Still she reach out to touch the magic before it faded in thanks. The bright green leafy parts of the Absinthium gave it away and the golden bulb at the top which was only barely sprouting into a flower and that made her smile faintly too. Lily added that to her small pouch at her side. It was certainly what she was looking for. Lily had been good in Herbology, she even recalled the Wormwood's song.It was good for the heart and the brain. Along with Rue it would remove an infection. She followed along the small path with its scattered flowers and herbs. All things Lily had encouraged to grow when they had been there. It had grown quiet well and wildly. It also helped that she could make a plant bloom with a touch as a little girl she had it wasn't something she'd lost. Thus her Lilies bloomed for her. As much as he could sense her she could sense him to, it might have been the gently rustling of the robes he wore. She was brushing dirt off her hands when he joined her. She smiled and turned to him. Glancing to the flowers between his fingers she tipped her face up to him. "Oh, for me ? " she teased him of the lily he'd plucked. "Oh, well I have found some Absinthium and of course the lily root." she tapped the scatchal at her side. At being called his Princess her lips curved up into a full warm smile and she gathered her feet under her to rise to greet him properly. She was aware it ws a play on what she called him. It was a endearment and affection that he said it with. She caught him by the front of his robes and leaned into him. Going to her toes one hand slipped up into his hair and she brushed her lips across his, kissing him lightly before she returned to the flats of her feet. "Though I do admit to the fact that I didn't get away to just find flowers..it was such a pretty night." she admitted to him. "I thought it might do you some good to get out of the Castle, and couldn't think of any better a place than our secret one."[/blockquote][/blockquote] ----------------- [x]♥Status♥Finished [x]♥Words♥1877 [x]♥Tags♥ Severus [x]♥Notes♥ LOL, I think Any Minotaur silly enough to do so would be in dire danger. WALK BLINDLY TO THE LIGHT and reach out for his hand .don't ask any questionsAND DON"T TRY TO UNDERSTAND• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Severus’ classroom never needed that much work, he had inherited it well enough from Slughorn and while there was the gathering of ingredients, that was usually very much its own reward, both in terms of the fact that he also used them and the fact that finding them and preparing them gave his brain something to do other than worry about what was coming around the corner at that time. Potions and the Dark Arts had been callings to Severus, as well as Charms to a lesser extent, and it was Defence Against the Dark Arts that he favoured, he suspected that Dumbledore feared he might relapse into old ways were he to take the position on, Still, he would put requests in and still be quite happy enough with Potions. Lily knew well enough where his loyalty was, and it was not with the Order solely because of her, he had realised just how bad things were getting when she had still been married and in no way available.
Severus was not really one that looked after his appearance in terms of clothes nor cared what people thought about that. It could be teased that his different clothes were all styles upon the same theme and he would have politely asked well so what? He was knowledgeable and was not shy in showing such, he had been for a long while, in a way it had been insecurities, not that he blamed any outside factor for his path, that had put him where he could be recruited. He had been upset when Lily had not been sorted into Slytherin, but that wouldn’t have helped things, in hindsight it would have been better had he been able to follow her. Still, such was the path he was on and he made the best of it. Lili had certainly made his home liveable and he didn’t mind that at all, she was quite welcome to do as she would given that she was the only person other than he who could just walk in. The old movies might not have been the best idea, though Severus had been too proud to say that he had been scared nor just how glad he was that Lily had brought wolfsbane when they were both still under the effects of what the movie had done to them. He enjoyed rewatching them just as much as Lily though his emotions were much more under wraps than they had been back then. The forest weas indeed romantic, and it was very easy to get the feeling that he and Lily were the only two in there, even if they were keeping half an ear out for impending trouble. Under the moon, it had a further sublime edge that was hard to quite put into words, it was another reason that being ‘stuck’ teaching Potions was not quite as bad as his numerous applications mat make it seem. Other beings tended to leave them alone as well, stories spread.
Severus was glad that things had gone ok with the kneazle. While it was a touching gift, there was also the risk that the cat may have rejected Lily, but both seemed t like each other even if the cat had very definite ideas on territory and size not mattering while contesting it. He would have been quietly amused, were it not for Lily, that the kneazle had a lower opinion of James than it did of himself, he only got swiped at if he deserved it for stepping on one’s paw. The floor had not been that bad, but then his robes had a tendancy to migrate and settle where they chose, and they had used his oversized robes as cushions more than once in their youth. Snowflake was a Slytherin to her heart, and that was almost endearing, there were the good and the bad in all houses, people simply chose not to see the good in the serpents’ den. Though to be truthful, the good was getting harder to see.
There was no risk in either of them sending a patronus to the other, at least if there were not two does running around the school at the same time, so it was a hand way to communicate because, it had to be faced, Nox delivered messages when he felt like it. Or so it might seem. Half words made perfect sense between them because of the years that they had spent together, they could finish each other’s train of thought in almost any matter and were working on those they couldn’t do so in. Severus had not asked her to put herself in the position that she was in regarding the war, like everything else it had simply just happened. It was both good and regrettable, but there was little that they could change had they really wanted to. Severus had got upset when Lily’s character had been brought into question, it was as simple as that. He had asked Minerva just what she was implying. He knew. He just wanted to hear her say it. Then he had asked if she were accusing them of having such low thoughts that she appeared to be entertaining regarding two students. That could have blown up in their faces but he had been quietly seething and past caring at that point. They had become all the more intune with each other for that even, it had been an affirmation of what they had always really known but had never put voice to, and now it was growing once again, as was the solid proof of their relationship. Severus had not pushed for intimacy and neither had Lily, he would not have for the very reasons he had defended her, things had just…happened.
The forest had always been special to them, it had taken the place of the park in a way and it was just as comforting, as well as somewhere to go when one was upset or needed a place to think things over. It was natural that the two would spend nights there, discussing school, homework, simply being together and comfortable where they were. Even young they had not been ones to trifle with when they were together, Severus still had the horn of a minotaur that had been slower to learn that fact. He had seen it since, it did not like him, but there was little that was to be done about it. There was much that could be done with the herbs and roots of the forest, so it was good that Severus could walk unhindered through it, if there were a sudden problem at the Castle he would need only ten minutes in the forest to find what was necessary.
Severus was not trying to stay hidden and Lily was perhaps the one person thaty he could not surprise had he chosen to, which made it for the best that he did not so choose. He gave one of his rare smiles, “A pretty flower for a pretty lady.” He nodded as she spoke of what she had found, he had picked up Willowroot in passing, and Lady’s Mantle, both had been added to his own satchel. There was certainly an endearment in how he addressed her, there was never the need for sarcasm or half meant words between them, and she was one of the very few, if not the only, who would hear warmth in his voice. As she grabbed his robes, he put an arm around her waist, a hand of his own snaking into her hair as he returned her kiss. He gave a brief laugh, “Well it is better than dragging one into a bath tub however willing he may have been.” He looked more at ease than he had felt in the past months in their spot, “Thank you for the thought, how are your own preparations faring?” He didn’t so much want to talk shop, but it was something worth asking. He flicked his robe from his shoulders, placing it on the floor as he had many times for them to sit down upon, “It has been too long since we were here together.”

----------------- Now I don't hardy know her but I think I could love herCrimson & Clover I wish wish she'd come walking over. ----------------- Lily
understood that for most people the idea of decorating there class room might be far fetched. Especially when that person was Severus Snape. Still she wanted an active example of what properly used Charms could accomplish and every day she would alter the color of the light sparkles that lit her class room. She thought it was a nice touch for charms. It was comforting that when she visted him in the Dungeon to work on Potions it was just like it had been when they were younger. There favorite table was still off to the side. She knew he constantly put in a request to teach the Dark Arts. Lily thought about putting in a request for that but Charms was far more her thing. With her lessons being taken from Severus for dueling and Occulmency. The petite red-head already had enough going on. Dark Arts would take alot more work, than something that was ingrained into her brain. The good news was should Severus not make it to Potions class on time. Lily could always fill in for him. Moreso, she could teach in the same manner he did. Direct and to the point, since she was likely the only other soul who understood the notes in the hand he wrote. She had tried as best as she could to behave as far as her marriage was concerned. Things really didn't help. Dumbledore used her as the go between because Dumbledore knew the effect the Gryffindor witch had on him. Anti-Social or not, he had been over-protective of her in there years together, it wasn't hard to recall that since it hadn't really been all that long ago. It was okay with Lily he wasn't a fashion Diva like some Slytherin she had known. At least Cissy had, had a reason to be a Princess. Lucius not so much. They were pretty together though Lily would say that much. The dark clothing in there varying patterns, or his Slytherin Dress Robes. Lily simply didn't mind what Severus wore because he prefered black and white, where she prefered white and black, it went well together. Lily had hoped that Severus would be sorted into Gryffindor with her. She was sad when he was placed in Slytherin but he had already told her that was where he was going. Eileen had told him that was where he was going. His mother had always she Lily was cunning enough for the Serpent House, though she did look sad between them. Lily was just glad that Eileen had lived long enough to see Lilith even if Lilith wouldn't have recalled the woman. When you were as young as they were at the time. Each of there mother's were mom's to the pair. Lily had not wanted to change the house to much and alter the good memories she had of the place. Still with his parents gone and her's as well. It was sad but it was nature too. Lily had always left the Movies holding onto his arm, a little bit tighter than when they went in to make sure she didn't get lost from him. Lily had been wary of dogs during that time too. You never knew. Lily though Wolvesbane was the best options since she didn't have a silver tailsman and there was no gyspy woman anywhere around to plead one from. She had sewn a small pouch with the wolvesbane in it that he could keep in a pocket. Made one for herself as well, and Tuney though her older sister had called it Witchcraft and refused anything to do with it. Though Lily had seen her sleep with it under her pillow. As they had grown older Lily's bravery often out weighed her fear on a subject. There were still parts she buried her face against his shoulder for but it was more a happy childhood memory than actual fear. The woods always held a mystical feel to it. They had nothing to fear from the Centaur's either mainly because they didn't go into that area. Of course stories spread too, and after what Severus had done to that Minotaur. Snowflake and Lily had hit it off rather well, since Lily had allowed her to curl up warmly in her lap and even slipped her cream tea. She was very much aware of the fact that the magical cat might not actually take to her. It was a case by case thing. Lily was Snowflakes and thus anything her's was Snowflakes by association. Thus when she was in a bed, it was also Snowflakes bed. The largest problem it seemed the kneazle had with James was he thought of it as just another cat. When it was highly intellectual and pretty. He should give it affection to. Thus the irritation the small white and silver kitty felt.Severus at least gave the cat space and respect. She hadn't lashed out at him except when he deserved it. Lily was just fine on the floor after being patched up from a knezle clawing, when she'd tried to pull the blanket sleepily onto the floor. She had dragged the kitten with her. So she had settled under the large robe she rather liked it over her.The fact that her kitty was Slytherin was something that never bothered Lily she loved Severus and he was from the Sepents Den.The new generation of Slytherin seemed to widely be forgetting what there House was meant to be. Than over a long amount of times all stories got diluted. Lily knew that sending her Patronus wouldn't be odd as it had been said as time passed and a person changed so to did there Patronus. Her's was a doe and had stayed a doe if only to match Severus's Patronus as well. Though he had to be more careful of sending his. As it would give away a little too much in other company. Nox was a good loyal bird, he sometimes lost letters, or forgot he was meaning to go somewhere else. More than once Severus had a cheerful little owl show up. With a letter not directed to him rather Nox just decided it would be brilliant to visit at the time. It spoke alot that the two of them didn't need full sentences even words at times. When a look could relay just as much. It was the same reason she had to school herself because a look could give her away he was far more impassive and trained at keeping his emotions to himself. He had not asked, he had not had to ask it was just something that had happened given her stand in the War, Dumbledore's trust in her, her trust in Severus and the fact they were valueable pieces on a chessboard no one could see.Severus was slways such a quiet boy in school he rarely had more than a handful of words to say at a time. Unless they were squirreled away somewhere just him and her. So when he'd gripped her hand and than released it and leaned forward to challange the words of her Head of House, Lily had been so shocked her eyes had gone huge. Dumbledore had watched him keenly. It had taken Lily a good moment to find her own words. Even than they were a softly whispered Severus. Than she'd hugged him because she could tell he was seething and the best was to disfuse her Prince was a hug which she did promptly dentention be damned. Her head of House had looked rather un-nerved. Though yes it touched Lily that he would so quickly defend her. It had been the first real statement to anyone of there loyalty to each other. It was always there but it was the first actually needed show on that front. There had been no need to press for anything between them the term best used for them was things just happened. Things had happened in the forest on the moss. She hadn't pressed the subject because Lily felt that the two of them were close and things would happen when they happened and of there own accord, it would make it less special to force such a moment. The weren't allowed home as often as Lily liked so to her there firefly lit forest was just as beautiful. She had even planted her favorite type of Lilies around there special place. It was where she went when she was upset as rare as that was.As a Prefect she had more leway and rarely abused it. It had been nice to settle close and watch the stars. There they could be just them, no one else around to make fun of them. She'd smacked one of her own House mates so hard he complained of his ears rings when he had insulted Severus where she could hear it. She was always closer to him after there little outtings and the boy had been unfortunate to run his mouth where she could hear. She'd not said a word to anyone else and gone to fume in her dorm. the whole Minotaur issue had been exciting to say the least. Not because Lily was looking for trouble but rather because he was setting up there favorite spot. She was doing the same thing she was doing now. Picking flowers. The movement of her cloak which she'd not yet abandoned had drawn the Minotaur's attention.it had charged and she hadn't had the time to even make a sound though her spells didn't fail her and a shield had manifested between herself and it. That alone had been enough to set Severus in a mood to hex it. He still had the horn. She saw a glimpse of confidence he didn't see in himself yet at that point and it had been her fear he might actually kill it. Though he'd let it crawl back in the woods it had come from. She couldn't be sure if that was because she was there or not. She'd given him her emerald ribbon to tie around the horn. The one that matched her eye color, which she had worn for a long time in her hair. Lily had not been back since but she suspected if the Minotaur saw her it would like her as much as it did him. If he needed help in the woods she would always be glad to help him out as he well knew. He could still sneak up on her and had in the House in Spinners End on more than one account and Lily had screamed. She wasn't beyond being scared she was just brave in the face of her fear. Except when she had her headphones on and was cooking in the kitchen. Though he had to be trying to catch her. Had to put actual effort into it otherwise he was greeted with a warm smile and a hug. Color infused her cheeks as she reach out and claimed the flower he had been holding. She didn't tuck it behind her ear because she knew him well enough to know her hair was where his fingers would go when she kissed him. She liked the endearment and she supposed she did look like a princess at the moment, with her heavier velvet over dress and the flowing one under it. Lily didn't dress up to look a princess she did it because white was her prefered color and rain was a promise most of these days. It always seemed he was never quiet trying to charm her as he was being truthful and that his words were heartfelt. She wasn't retreating from him when he kissed her the fingers in her hair made her sigh slightly. The color still in her cheeks as she had returned to the flats of her feet. His arm around her kept her near to him. Lily's lips quirked up in a smile that was bordering on a smirk. "I think that someone argued too much since as I recall once in the water found it perfectly fine." she pointed out a twinkle in emerald eyes. "Even if you did smell like lilies the day after." she said fondly. The lily bright against the black of his robes. When he moved to pull them off Lily stepped back answering him. "Oh i have put several charms in place so the room is always enchanted." she said "If you feel like braving the light of day, from your Dungeon you can stop by and have a look for yourself." the offer placed if he felt so inclined. Her own cloak joined his on the moss the inside which was black turned outward to keep from dirting it. She didn't care on her conversation of classrooms since that really wasn't why they were there. It was just an pleasent escape. Lily settled onto the cloak once it was spread out properly and brought her chin to the top of her knees. Her gaze going to him. "Yes, it has been far to long, but the magic remembers us, it never really fades you know..." it was like there was a wight lifted from her shoulders being alone there with him. Like..well.. "Do you think things are coming full circle now ?" she asked 'Its like we've come back to the place we were before." she gestured. "Obviously Hogwarts." her laughter soft. The flower resting in her lap, her free hand twirled the locket he'd given her between long slender fingers. "Its like feeling like I am where I belong." she said waiting for him to sit with her as well. So she could lean into him and place her head on his shoulder. Her hand already reaching for him. The stars were like diamonds in velvet tonight and sparkled in the gaps of the trees over head. Much as she would have said as a girl. "Even the stars are bright and glowy.".[/blockquote][/blockquote] ----------------- [x]♥Status♥Finished [x]♥Words♥2613 [x]♥Tags♥ Severus [x]♥Notes♥ Yeah Some Minotaurs take two beat downs to understand better. WALK BLINDLY TO THE LIGHT and reach out for his hand .don't ask any questionsAND DON"T TRY TO UNDERSTAND• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • It could not be said that Severus was really one to decorate…well, anywhere. It wasn’t that he didn’t like anything new, not at all, more that he had not altogether disliked what was already there enough to do something about it. Other than the fact that Slughorn’s Potions classroom had been warmer than it was now, Severus was prone to migraines and did not altogether like the heat. He did understand where the attraction might lie for a Charms Professor, however, and of course there was the fact that he simply knew Lily. She was the only one that he would have allowed to alter his family home after his mother had passed. He and Lily working together in the dungeon had been like old times and that had been a comfort given what they had been through during a period from their seventh year and all the mess that had entailed. He and Lily had coded their notes rather thoroughly, given that a lot of what they were working on was their own work in every sense of the term, and Severus’ own classnotes were written in that hand, meaning that the case had been he had better not get ill. That had worked out fine for him, though having Lily there meant that that was not so much an issue now. They had both tried to behave in terms of Lily being married, but things just happened, as they always did between them. That they were going to be working together had been more or less inevitable, Severus had defended Lily, even in his seventh year he had hexed someone he had heard meant her harm, and she had brought him back from a very dark place when he had been all but broken. There really was no other way things were going to be.
Severus was never going to really be fashionable. He was antisocial, some people just didn’t get that and they expected him to conform, especially as many of the girls in Slytherin had treated the House as somewhere to find an appropriate match. Apparently, Severus could have been quite the catch had her put effort into it, but the only girl whose opinion mattered to him liked him just the way he was. It was true that Lucius could be accused of trying to look like a princess. He wore more makeup than Narcissa, Severus had seen him applying eyeliner and considered himself mentally scarred for life as a result. Lucius had his own makeup bag, now that…that was just wrong. It could perhaps be said that Severus and Lily were alike to yin and yang with how they chose to dress, the dominant colour with the splash of the other. That was very much how they were as well, Lily was shiny, with her charms, but had that knack for dark magic from Severus who could not be matched in his knowledge of such but owed the light within him to Lily more than anyone else. Severus had known which House he was going to be in from the start. Lily being in Grydffindor had been a blow, but their relationship lasted much longer than many teen relationships by a long way despite that. They had been sweethearts without ever quite knowing it until one night in the bathroom and the fallout of that. Severus still had his own talisman with wolvesbane, however much he tried to pretend that the movies had not scared him, and being fair they had never been attacked after the movies while wearing those talismans. Severus had become known as one not to mess with lightly in the Wood, though he tended to try and stay out of other creatures’ way as much as they did with him. There was no point in looking for trouble.
Severus had taken as much of a liking to Snowflake as anyone ever was with a cat. He respected her, kneazles were intellectual beings and considering Severus’ owl had quite the personality, he was used to it. So she would get fuss and attention from him, but he also knew when to leave her alone and had honestly tried to warn Lily that the blanket was lost to them. It was true that the Slytherrins were forgetting what their House was for, what it encouraged. Severus had seen that clearly as the head of House. Of course the problem was that the Dark Lord had taken the message and put his own spin on it, meaning his followers drilled the lie into their children. It was not something that Severus could do much about, especially when there were Death Eaters’ children in the House and he suspected they knew well enough that he bore the Dark Mark, he was supposed to help them on that path and pluck out any other child that might be turned to the Dark Lord’s service.
Severus could not send a patronus when he might be seen by another. He was singular among the Death Eaters in being able to produce a fully formed one and there was a reason for that, namely the Death Eaters worked with or created those that a patronus defended against, that he had perfected his technique would say too much about him to any Death Eater that learned such. Still, with precautions there were very few risks. Severus did like Nox, it had to be said. Even if Othello, his own owl, seemed to think that Nox wasn’t much of an owl at all. Severus was the only person that Nox could reliably find and Nox would go to him if he had lost Lily even if Severus were further away. It really was an odd thing in that respect. Still, even if Nox was not the most reliable of birds, he was a cheerful and loyal one and he would usually get a treat and a little fuss from Severus which more likely than not didn’t discourage the bird any. Severus and Lily had had years together and had formed a bond that made them more in tune with each other than could be imagined. They could feel each other as well as look and listen, it was as deep as that, all told. Their roles in this war had been defined, bar a blip which had caused Severus’ to be redefined, as far back as that night they had been caught in the bathroom together. Severus had felt that bond he had with her grow when he had leaned forward to defend her, when she had hugged him to calm him down. It was true that no one could see the chessboard, though Severus knew more of it than most, and most people didn’t even know to which side of it Severus belonged, but they could only do as they always had, be there for each other and that was how it had evolved to the situation where Lily was the go-between between he and the Order, which was used more often than not despite the fact that he could be seen to work with the Order being as the Death Eaters believed him to be their double agent. When Severus’ loyalty was truly given, it was absolute, of course the problem was knowing what was true and not when it came to one who could lie under the influence of veritiserum, something that as far as he knew, no other person could do. The fact that Lily was the go-between was just another of those things that had just happened, one of those things that they had not asked for but would never fight, that was how Lilith truly was loved by both of her parents.
Severus had always had somewhere that was more or less theirs to go when one of them needed to just get away from everyone. It was only natural that when they didn’t have their park due to being at school that they had found somewhere in the Forest. That they were not supposed to go into the Forest unsupervised really hadn’t seemed to register with either of them. They had made that little area their own, like they had made the bathroom their own, and a half dozen other little places around the grounds. Each just knew when the other needed company and it would not take long to find them. They came when things weren’t that bad as well, when they just wanted to be alone together, or when a walk in the forest, both had decided either alone or together, was just a good idea. Severus had never taken well to anyone trying to harm Lily, and it had been no different with the minotaur, his protectiveness of her had taken over from any sort of fear and he had cast the first spell that had come to mind, Sectumsempra. If he hadn’t perfected it, it was likely that the minotaur would not have lived past that moment, as it was even Severus was just a little surprised that it had worked and as cleanly as that, but not surprised enough to not accio the horn before the minotaur could catch it. He had allowed the minotaur to crawl back to where it had come from, the moment had passed and anything else would have been cold blooded, his concern was more with Lily. He still valued any help that she could give him in the woods, if only to spend time with her before one considered the fact that she was one of the best potions mistresses the school had seen.
Severus could sneak up on Lily if he wanted to, and he had, in play, made her squeal a couple of times knowing that she could no more stay mad at him than he could at her. He never complained about being hugged by her when his efforts failed, she was about the only one who could get that close to him and it was not something he would have any other way. Severus’ hand had indeed roamed to Lily’s hair when they kissed, though he was careful about anything in there, and about not removing it. Severus had not come into the forest knowing that he was going to use the endearment he had, but other than the fact that it just fit, it had been the right thing to say at the time as much as it had been fully meant, she was that important and dear to him. It had been that way as children, as students when he had averted his eyes when she dressed, showing the difference between loving and respecting someone compared to lusting after them, the way it had been when she had found him a mess and helped him put himself back together and the way it had been and still was with Lilith. That things just happened by themselves made them more special, not a sign of something that they didn’t think about or repressed. He gave her a mock dour look at the smirk, his eyes as ever belying the rest of his expression, “I didn’t complain, no, that doesn’t mean you were any less cheeky simply dragging me in.” He shrugged, he had not minded smelling like lilies the day after and had simply ignored the comments made about it, sharing a secret smile with Lily. He chuckled dryly, giving a mock aghast look that he was never going to put a voice to in support of, “I suppose I shall have to brave the sun to see it.” He nodded as he sat down next to her on their cloaks, the weight had truly been lifted from them both simply being here together, “I’ve always felt it when walking near this place.” It had almost been like it had come out to say hello, though for the most part it had remained dormant, waiting for he and Lily to visit properly as he had never been in their spot without her. He considered her question for a moment, “I think we are, yes. In terms of time, we are at where we were, and then there is being here together, it feels just right, as it always has. Of course, she who would have had a litter to see us here when we were students might well tease that it’s gone from being caught in the bath to sneaking into the forest if she were to see us…” He couldn’t help but smile at that, “But yes, coming back to this place, with the way we are, is almost like coming home.” He put his arm around her as she leaned into him, looking up at the stars also, “They are bright, but they pale next to you.” He slipped easily into their old game, “For this is the east and my Lily is the sun.”

♥Lily{Ann}Evans-Potter♥
----------------- Now I don't hardy know her but I think I could love herCrimson & Clover I wish wish she'd come walking over. -----------------
Of course no one could really accuse Severus of liking to decorate and nor would he usually. Lily had always been the one to do anything fashionable between them. Including clothes shopping. Like he trusted her not to change to much in his family home and she hadn't. Lily had been very careful about that she cared too much for his mother to alter much of anything. She knew that he liked the Potions classroom the way Slughorn had kept it. She of course knew that too warm bothered him and gave him headaches. This wasn't from the heat she might have pointed out but because he was always a study of discipline when he was not teaching magic, he was keeping his mind sealed and closed. Lily had found out first hand about the headaches the first few lessons they had all but made her head want to pop. The Charms room needed something extra something fancy and that was what Lily had done, given it a touch of her own. It was something to say that what was between them was not going to be denied. Time apart and war had not diminished it and there friendship and closeness had only lended strength to it. She could take over Potions for him should he need her too. Like one of his really bad headaches. It wasn't as though they had met one day and thought it was just a fine idea to sleep together. Quiet the opposite they had been very careful about that they had not lost there closeness even with all that had occured. When things happened between them there was little to be done for it because like always they had never denied who they were, nor what they were to one another. if one needed the other, than they would be there in all things. He had been her defender and had remained that to this day, much as she was his. She shared his dark time joined him in it and did her best to bring him out of it.
She had known that some of the girls within Slytherin thought he'd make a good match she'd heard about it. Some even questioned what a Gryffindor girl would want with a Slytherin man. Lily had been quiet insulted that they had thought she was only after him for any reason other than he was who he was. Still the petite red head could hold her own. Her only answer to them had been because he wants to be with me. which was the truth. Lily had not wanted him to be fashionable, had not wanted him to be anything more than the studious book worm he was. Her best friend and her sweetheart. Lily had like Cissy just fine, the girl was alright until she married Malfoy. Still Lucius had issues the only nice thing Lily could say about them was they were quiet pretty together. Lily naturally favored white colors, she was known for her habit of choosing pastel shades. Oh she liked bright gem tones too emerald, garnet, ruby but it was usually white trimmed in black for her. She was the light side of Hogwarts Potion's Master this had been something not stated but understood when they had been younger. She would be the one to drag him from his more intense moods with a hug or a flower. A touch in passing if they were going opposite directions. Usually if that was the case it was for the night, though they'd wind up meeting together again later. Lily had accepted her House the same way she accepted many things. She had turned her attention to what really mattered, her best friend, her new friends and her studies. It could be said that Lily and Severus were the last to know that they were sweethearts and that would be true. Even once they knew it wasn't like anything had really truely changed, other than there own private life. They still went about life much in the same manner. A touch more affection could be seen, but over all they had both been private people. Of course Myrtle had known and laughed when she'd caught them holding hands. For all Lily knew those tailsmans were actually magical since she'd created them after a surge of fear and she had made one for him and herself and of course Petunia. Her's were now on her keys. Lily was so often with him in the woods that she had the protection of his reputation, since he was so quick to defend her. Who knew what they thought of the two students she never looked for trouble either. If she was there it was flower hunting, or being with Severus.
Snowflake held a level of respect for Severus she didn't hold for any of the other pets. Expect maybe Othello because he was not inclined to react to her stalking him. He gave her a look much like his owner could muster. The bird was simply not amused and Snowflake didn't have Lily's charm to convince him otherwise. Lily had been to sleepy to realize the blanket was kneazle property and she had tugged it. One lived and learned and Snowflake had also learned in that night that Lily was a red head, and that no matter how nice she was she had a temper. She'd tossed Snowflake and the blanket into Severus's bathroom and had locked the bathroom door with a charm. Growled about being clawed up and promptly curled back up to sleep. Since Lily was a doe until you woke the other side of her up. That side that was a lioness. it had taken a quick healing charm to deal with the deeper scratches though Lily only wanted to resume her sleep concidering how much sleep she usually achieved. She knew it was a pain for him to introduce any child to the life that had sucked him in as a child, some were already the sort to be on that road anyways, and still she was there to hold him afterwards. The only people who trusted him were the chess players of the large game, no one on the side of the Order knew just how much of his soul he risked, didn't understand or didn't care one of the two. Lily knew all to well she'd seen it first hand, she had experienced it with him, maybe not at his side at the time but she'd been his healer the one to put him back together again, until he could heal on his own.
It was always like de ja vu to get a Patronus from Severus because it was so similar to her own. That he even had one said alot for the fact that he was more than he appeared. Lily might have been his light, but he was her darkness. She was given to the full temper when it came to him. She was more than capable of hexs, being a former Auror before she settled down to be a house wife and later a Professor, she held her papers to toss Unforgiveables. She'd never used the Killing Curse in her line of work. Though were he was concerned if it came to protecting him or any one of the children she'd not even hesitate to throw it. Lily was quiet capable she was just reserved about it. It could have been said that had Lily encountered any of Voldemort's followers after putting Severus back together, they were now among the fallen list. Like most things in her life, done was done, and she held no room for regret. That he was more than happy to give Nox any love what so ever made the bird even more so inclined towards Severus. It figured if it could find him he could find Lily, since she was with him when Lily choose him from the owlery.Lily loved the little bird and she couldn't help but keep him. Not so bright or not. There developed bond was strong enough that it had lasted a heart break. It was still as strong as ever and Lily didn't think it would ever fade it might grow even stronger but it made learning from Severus how to block her mind all the easier and dueling was fun too since he never threw anything that would hurt her. As much as he knew she prefered simple jinxs things that could be blocked easily. In true duels she completely deviated from that, she flung curses that she had made and ones he had crafted it was always harder to counter those type or cure them. The War was something that made Lily worried for the future they had seen first hand what happened when Wars occured even ones that were behind the scenes. Lily was the go between because her faith in him was unshakeable because she was his light as well. It could have been said one completed the other. Yes Pookie had just happened it hadn't been something either had planned they hadn't quiet guarded against it either, than again children were precious to Lily all her children.
They had always been capable even as teens and had sought out places that were just theres. Placed they used spells to cover and protect. Mostly because Sev was anti-social and Lily enjoyed there privacy because there was so little of it to be found anywhere else. They didn't have there park but they had the forest and when they were warned they could be killed there, it was just one of those things both had silently agreed to risk. When the subject had come up, both had agreed. The places were there for them when they needed a place to go to just calm down or alternatively when they just wanted to have an evening that was them even without studying. Sometimes it was just to lay and look at the stars on the bed of moss Lily found more comfortable than the beds at Hogwarts. She liked to nestle close to him and look for shooting stars, as rare as they were. Talking about anything from school to the future even if it had been a future neither of them would have seen coming. Severus had never liked people talking rudely about her let alone trying to harm her. When she had joined the dueling club so had he. She felt bad for anyone who had to duel her if they wound up opposite from him. Severus had a certain style when he dueled that was fast and to the point. It was entertaining as long as it wasn't harmful. She certainly found it a better hobby than Quidditch. he had been more concerned for her than the Minotaur old, Sheerhorn she had taken to calling him because he was someone she knew on sight. Lily had been fine aside for scrapped hands because she'd used them to cushion the knock back. It could be said that Lily was a strong girl the only person she really allowed to see her vulnerable was Severus in addition he was the only one she really allowed to fuss over her when she wasn't well. That was also because she went to him when she needed a potion brewed and wasn't well enough to do so herself. She didn't count herself the best Potion Mistress but she did think that the two of them could make anything better they put real work into.
That he could sneak up on her was not a surprise she got into cooking when she was in the kitchen. Lily even owned an IPOD she had enchanted it and it played music no matter the location. She sometimes had the headphones on when she worked. From him it was something rare but sweet to be snuck up on. Since it meant he was in a playful mood. Of course there were times it was good they were able to clean with magic, since the sauce she had been working on had gone everywhere the first time he'd actually scared her. She had laughed about it though after the fact. Like when they had been in school it was likely easy to see that they were together. People most likely thought they were married that saw them out and about in Muggle England. It simply wouldn't be a surprise concidering how protective he was of her. How close she stayed to him. She knew her hair was a target for hands and fingers luckily she washed it and conditioned it so it stayed soft and vibrant. There was also the fact she liked her hair played with as much as her fingers tended to play with his when she was pulled close. Not thought about just done. Even if his kiss left her somewhat breathless and her stomach fluttering. That he averted his gaze was always touching to her, he never watched her undress when she was getting ready for a bath he kept his gaze to his work, or to his feet if he was helping her with the water in the tub. Even if it had made her ask him if he thought she was hidious to look at unclad or something still that had been one of her bad days as few as they seemed to be. Even there in there private place admist the moss they'd had his long robe for a blanket. That he thought her his princess did make her smile. She would have never labeled herself a princess, but somehow since she refered to him as her prince it fit. He gave her a look and true to nature Lily tipped her head and gave the red locks a toss over her shoulder. "Oh cheek is it ?" she challanged playfully "I suppose it was even more cheek when I pointed out you could just take your clothes off.." her smirk did not fade. "Of course I wouldn't have minded." her eyes twinkled in the light as she met his gaze. "Alas, no such luck..." she knew he hadn't minded no matter what argument he put up to the contrary. Lily hadn't meant for him to smell like lilies after wards but that was the effect of her bubble bath, they only made it in her scent. "I will be sure to have tea ready should you feel the need to brave it and come see me." she offered with a wink.
Settling next to her only made her inclined to lean into him, it was very much there habit from there teen years. "Yes, its like it slumbered waiting for us to come back to it...there always been the feel of an ancient magic to this place you know." she whispered softly to him her teasing tone gone in favor of the childish awe she sometime possessed about things. "Its held our secrets for so many years, its hard to think on just how many years now." she said "It was only like a day or so passed I was over there and the minotaur got after me." she waved with a hand to the spot. Her flowers bloomed peacefully un trampled. "I doubt she'd have much to say on the subject these days, I mean were both Professors now, she really can't deduct House points can she ?" Lily asked her voice soft and low. She leaned her head against him. "I think that we never really left where we were, certainly we fell out of place it just took the proper nudge to realign ourselves." her tone thoughtful. "You can try to add another piece but it will never fit properly as the piece that is suppose to be there." she returned the smile "You should smile more, though yes I know hardly a way to keep up your image, or do so with children such as the lot you have these days." she twirled her locket with her fingers. She almost laughed at the playful banter but lifted her chin and looked away slightly her hand releasing her locket to flutter over her heart. "I am too bold, 'tis not to me he speaks: Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven, Having some business, do entreat his eyes To twinkle in their spheres till they return." she countered answering with the same verse altered slightly for her own use of course. OOC: Family due soon, I'll make this and the past thread post look pretty when i have time
Severus had known well that Lily had cared for his mother as much as she had her own, that she had visited her even after they had had their spat. He knew that Lily knew how Eileen liked things and that Eileen would have trusted her as much as he did, if it were anyone else, well it would not go well. The house was special to him in a way that very few could comprehend. Severus had more or less lived in the potions room at some periods as a student. He knew where everything was, and had found that he quite liked it the way it had been kept then Of course Severus knew that it was his occlumency that was mainly responsible for the headaches, and that was something that was not going to change, it was simply too important, but heat did not help, it was like the straw that broke the camel’s back, it aggravated things. Occlumency was not the easiest discipline to learn or to maintain, but those who could reach that level of discipline…well Severus had found that he could lie under the effects of veritiserum, that was something that was impossible for anyone else to conceive. He had warned Lily about the headaches, but they had both felt it important that she learn, what they were doing, what they had together, it was beautiful, it was right and natural, it was also very dangerous and not only for them. Severus was sure that the Charms room looked better for Lily’s attentions, it was just that such were not his forte nor did he try to cultivate such. The time away had shown both Severus and Lily what the other meant to them, it was a case of you never know what you have until you lose it and the two of them were two of the lucky ones, they got a second chance. They had not thought to resume their relationship in an intimate manner, but the thing was that things just happened. Neither of them thought about it, neither of them pushed for it, it just was. They had both shared and taken the burden of dark times from each other, whether it had been the state Lily had found Severus in or the loss of Lily’s parents and Severus’ mother. It was natural that they would come out the stronger for it.
Severus had not shared the opinion of the girls in his common room that he would be a good match for them. He had not wanted to be that match for a start, they were empty headed little girls who used this House to find their future matches. Discouragement had had the opposite intended affect though, and when they had heard from Lily that he wanted her and that was that, he found himself the target of their affections in the Common room where she couldn’t be. He had eventually stormed out and left half the forest shaking, in a temper so bad that it disturbed the charms in their special place. He had also been muttering about inbred little girls with parents only just distant enough cousins to be allowed to marry, who wanted to marry his mother’s maiden name, until Lily had pounced him to calm him down. Severus had seen Lucius applying makeup, and in Narcissa’s underwear. Literally, not in ways that would have gotten him arrested. That was scar for life level trauma right there. Severus was yang to Lily’s yin, often wearing black trimmed with white. He was also, as she was his light side, her dark side. She was passionate, and while she stayed away from the Dark Arts, she was very capable of them, Eileen had been a dark witch, Severus was a dark wizard, it was natural that between them Lily knew all she needed to for if it ever became necessary. Lily had kept Severus on the right path for as long as he had been, and had helped to bring him back onto it, or to help him return to it in any case, as when they were children, she could still lighten things that bore down upon him. Severus had known where he would be in Hogwarts and had accepted that. But then he had had perhaps the true values of the House, he was ambitious. Yes, he was cunning but that did not mean being a snob, his ambition had always been knowledge. It was something that he had thirsted for from a young age and his interests ran deep, sometimes deeply into where they would have been better off staying away from, but that was the double edged nature of the thing. They had been the last to know that they were sweethearts because they truly were, and as such it didn’t matter to them, they didn’t need to think about it. Once they did know…well, they knew, nothing had changed. Though it had been not long after it had clicked that they had gone to their first ball together, however Slytherin Lily had been about it. Myrtle had always been a friend of theirs and she found it funny to tease them, which was well and good because she was special to them. They would have been expelled had one dunderhead DADA Professor actually succeeded in his attempt to exorcise her. Severus also still had his talisman, he had never put it down. Even at their worst of times, he had always had a little bit of Lily with him. Severus had quite the reputation in the woods and most of its inhabitants simply knew better, they had learned that quick after the incident with Sheerhorn.
Snowflake was not a creature to be messed with. She was cunning, and vicious when she needed to be and it was perhaps well that she had recognised the same qualities in Severus even with the fact that he had shown the kneazle nothing but respect and the occasional affection. She had had to learn that about Lily the hard way however, that she might own Lily but that Lily could and would fight back if she were attacked. Othello was not an owl to be cowed by any cat or human. He had been around the Death Eaters, and he had kept Severus together as well as one owl could manage by himself. He was a tough bird, to be sure. He was also smart and gentlemanly, it was almost certain that he had griffon or hippogriff in his bloodline. Severus tried for the children that he set onto that path, it was all that he could do. It pained him but some of them had hardly needed his help to get there to begin with. Sometimes they lost a child, and the Dark Lord had another pawn, it was something that Severus had to deal with. That Lily knew how much of himself Severus risked was enough to him, that there was just one person who understood. Oh, the chessmasters of this game trusted him, both of them thought, knew that he was theirs, but even Dumbledore did not quite understand, and to have one person who did made all the difference.
Severus felt the same way as Lily in regards to déjà vu over their patronuses. Other than learning one in the first place, it had not been intentional, but given that it was Lily that made him happy and her doe-like nature, it was not altogether unexpected either. He was singular among the Death Eaters in being able to cast a patronus, given that Death Eaters worked with or created the creatures the patronuses worked against, and given that they had other ways of commanding them, it was not something that any had seen fit to learn. Of course, none of them knew that he could cast a Patronus either. Severus knew well enough that Lily had a temper, and that a lot of it could be down to him. After the pureblood that had tried to throw herself over him had driven him to their spot in the forest, Lily had marched into the great hall and informed her, loudly, that the next time she tried to throw herself on her boyfriend, she would break her pretty inbred little face. Then she punched her for good measure when the Slytherin girl had not taken Lily’s tone as a warning to keep her snide comments to herself. Severus did not have any papers to throw Unforgivable curses, but since the Order knew the arrangement, that he was a double agent, there would be none seeking to arrest him. While he had a vicious streak with all other magic, Severus was careful with the Unforgivables in any case, it had been through them that he had wound up in the state Lily had found him in. Severus had grown to like Nox almost against his will, but he did like him. Of course he would help the little bird find Lily, so Nox associated Severus with her, and could for some reason more reliably find him. As for Lily and Severus’ bond, it could be said about the mighty oak that it had started out an acorn that had held its ground and they had similarly grown through adversity. Severus and Lily duelling was something to be seen. They pushed each other, that much was sure, but as proficient at charms as they were, they had more or less scored or defended hits with sparkles, they were childhood friends, and then lovers, playing a game. Of course, if one took that to be how they duelled when they meant it, they were in trouble. If Severus’ ire were raised and he hit a curse the victim could be expecting to nap for a week, if it were over Lily…well Goyle knew about that well enough. The war was something that they could only deal with on a day to day basis and work towards the worst not happening.
It was a sure thing that when they didn’t have their park, they would find somewhere else to find time by themselves. They had not been worried about the dangers of the forest and soon, if sometimes through look, had caused those same dangers to be worried about them. They had always valued their time together and had not liked people threatening the other, such had driven them to doing what they themselves had not been aware of being capable of at the time. The forest had drawn them, it had an eerie beauty, and their having read Shakespeare and fairy tales, there was a lot that they could relate to their childhood stories. Duelling club could be interesting. Severus had a flare for duelling that did not lie only in the dark magic. While not harmful, Severus had shown himself to be brutally proficient, rarely needing to bother with defences because quite simply it rarely got as far as that. Of course Severus was more worried about Lily than Sheerhorn, the minotaur had charged her with no provocation, and had received what he had deserved. Lily and Severus had seen each other with all barriers down, raw and exposed at their worst and in both cases, were the only people that could say that. It had been how they had been so close, that nothing between them was hidden. Of course, Lily was similarly the only one that could fuss over Severus, beyond his mother and her parents. The two of them were a partnership when it came to potions as with anything else, Severus was spectacular alone and she was extremely good herself, but together there was no one that could match them when they put their minds to it.
As Lily snuck up on Severus, he snuck up on her. It was only fair. Of course, he waited until she was distracted, and he had to be in that playful mood. Lily knew that it was genuine when he was feeling playful, it was not something that he turned on and off like a light, nor could he. The first time, he could have chosen his timing a little better, but he had been fairly impatient to pounce her and that there was sauce everywhere…well, it was always funny after the fact. To anyone looking at them from outside, the signs were there to be seen pretty easily. The two always leant close, had words only for each other, as if they had secrets that were to be kept between only they in all the world. Of course in muggle England it seemed all the more obvious, theirs was a relationship that was solid in a world where one could marry in a night and annul the marriage in the morning and where relationships were made and broken in an hour. Lily’s hair was like a magnet for his fingers, it was not something that he did deliberately or always knew he was doing, like anything else about their relationship. Of course his being played with was never met with any protest and the effects that his kiss had on Lily were more than duplicated by the way that her kiss, her touch made him feel. He had not chosen to take advantage of Lily’s trust, that was honestly how he saw it. They had never been shy about it before but perhaps for him, the love was always there and coupled with the awkward time boys had with puberty, it was easier in that regard also. Of course, that had not stopped him from dropping his books and reaching into the water to hug her when she asked a question like that, he would never find her hideous to look at whatever she was or was not wearing and he told her so, showed her so also as he stayed in contact with her. The moss was comfortable and a blanket was either there or could be transmuted, so they were never at a loss. Maybe it was the fact that Lily made the name he had taken on sound like it was for her alone in the way that she said it, but Severus did consider her his princess, he loved her, and knew exactly how much she meant to him considering he had lost her, so that she was special to him was not a surprise. He was a master when it came to his looks, he could make a grown adult just a little nervous, but Lily was singularly unaffected by them which was exactly why Severus gave them to her in jest, “Yes, cheek, and if I recall, I asked if you wanted to give your head of House another litter.” He looked and sounded not amused, though Lily and Lily alone would see just how amused he was. He would never have minded smelling like lilies, and since he found her scent intoxicating to begin with, he had little reason to do so should he have been so inclined. “I am sure that I can brave the sun for you, dear, contrary to popular belief, there is no spell keeping me confined to the dungeons."
Severus put an arm around Lily as she leaned into him, “It’s an old forest, and we have always been in tune with its magic, I feel.” He too was in awe of this place, it was what drew him back, “It is our magic, and this place has lain undisturbed, all it had to do was wait until we were here once more.” If the trees had ears, they would know as much about Lily and Severus as they did about each other, they had talked about everything. They had shared their first kiss here, their first declaration of love. The first time it would have become more heated than a kiss save for their control had also happened within these trees. He gave a quiet snicker, “Well no, but we spent so long looking out for her, old habits die hard.” He had not resented Professor McGonagall after the fact, it had been in the moment that he had seethed and he and Lily had simply been more careful since. It had not been as bad for them as it might have been, he had laid his cards on the table and McGonagall would have to have seen, along with the others, just how deep their relationship was, and that he would look after Lily rather than bring harm to her. He thought about her words and nodded, that was all that was needed. She knew that there had never been anyone else for him, that there was no other piece to the jigsaw ill fitting or no. he was secure enough that he did not need to put her in an awkward position, and had argued that she should stay with James for the sake of the children. His smile held a bittersweet edge for just a moment, “My smiles are for you, dearest.” It was true that he had an image, and not just with children as a while, but with children of Death Eaters and their parents by association. Still, his smile was warm as he replied, “Her eyes in heaven would in the airy region seem so bright that birds would sing and think it were not night. See how she leans her cheek upon her hand!” He raised his hand to frame Lily’s cheek, “Oh that I were a glove upon that hand that I might touch that cheek.”
