James paced up and down the staircase sometimes more than three times a day. He had a lot on his mind, and it was easy to get lost in the sound of your footsteps, one after another. It was 11 o’clock and he’d just exited the Kitchen in search of something to occupy his time. He’d been filing reports for work all day—even though this was technically his day off—and was beyond exhausted. It was far past the children’s bed time, so he had most of the house to himself. He hadn’t seen Lily anywhere recently, and thought nothing of it. The rocky strength he and his wife had been going through in their relationship was something James didn’t think about—he merely pushed it aside in the hopes that one day the awkwardness might just disappear. After about five times up and down the staircase, he sat himself in a nice armchair by the fire in the Family Room. He rubbed his forehead leaned his head back, succumbing to the tired feeling he’d felt all day. He let the silence encompass his entire body and fell into sort of a half-awake trance. However, he jolted upright when he heard a crash from the Kitchen. He rubbed his eyes and slowly got of the chair. “Lily? Lily, is that you?” Word Count: 222 Tagged: Lils Notes: Not really.

All my time is froze in motion , Can't I stay an hour or two or more Why was it when she was trying to get into the house everything attempted to thwart her waking her children up. Today it was the garbage can. Lily was a graceful witch but it seemed the muggle appliances had it out for her tonight. Bouncing from her shoulder Snowflake, the white and silver kneazle landed on silent paws on the counter giving her the it was all you look examined one of her paws and gave it a lick as though disinterested in her witches stress. Still there was something of the way a tiger might watch over its cub in how it examined Lily. While James had been off that night she'd been out on Order business. Lily rarely discussed just what it was she did. Dumbledore understood and that was usually good enough for everyone else. Lily leveled her wand at the trashcan. Repairo she commanded with the twist and swish of the wand on her hand. Not that she even needed to say anything to do that spell. She heard a rustling from the living room followed by a voice. She winced hopefully she'd not woke the whole of the house up. Lilith was a light sleeper unless she had Snowbear. Harry and his little brother were also usually light sleepers. The red haired witch put the hot water on for tea. Than muted it so the whistle didn't stir others.
Only after the tea water was going did she move into the Family room Snowflake firmly rather insistant in her arms. Again a mother kitty for a mother she susposed she couldn't miss the irony of that. "Yes, its me..well me Snowflake and the trashbin which seemed to have been placed against the back door.." she mused quietly bringing a finger to her lips. "If I haven't woken the children with my graceful display in the kitchen." she rolled her eyes. "Merlin only knows if Nymphadora is rubbing off on me..." she said with a sigh. "What are you still doing up, its almost the witching hour." she asked. tossing her cloak so it floated to its proper peg. Her fingers going loosely through her hair. "Things seem to be very quiet on the Order front..not that I feel thats a good thing, its that calm before the storm." she inclined her head towards the kitchen. "Tea ?" she offered. Snowflake was warm against her chest her furry little face leaned on the shoulder of her mistress. Lily gently stroked her ears. Though she was watching James like what a mouse..Lily couldn't quiet tell.

As he sat, he reflected a bit on his day. It was his day off after all, but for a day off there were still tons of paperwork to sift through. The job of an Arour is never done, many men would say. When Lily poked her head out from around the corner, he noticed that she was holding Snowflake, as she often seen to do from time to time. “The trash bin placed against the backdoor?” He grinned, his eyes sparkling. “Now, I wonder who would’ve done that.” He shifted in his seat a little and pursed his lips together. “Harry and Charlie are such light sleepers that I doubt anything would wake them from a slumber. And after all, I didn’t hear this ‘display’, so I rather doubt the children would’ve.” He paused for a moment and thought about what he’d just said. “But I was you could say in a sort of trance—thinking. It’s possible you could’ve gotten the Weird Sisters to perform in our Kitchen and I wouldn’t have been the wiser.”
“I—have a lot on my mind. It’s been a stressful week at the Office and I kind of liked the quiet. Weird for me, I know. Quiet was never something you’d count on me enjoying. Lately, though—I can’t say I’ve slept so well. I guess you can say I’ve stopped trying. But I assume you’ve been out on Order Business. Dealing with--”, he took a deep breath, and mentally scolded himself for almost calling him by a different name, “Severus?” He sighed, and noticed that Snowflake was looking at him quiet oddly tonight. “Yes, the information we’ve been getting has been rather slow going. I don’t know when, but I can feel it building up into something pretty terrible.”

ALL MY TIME IS FROZE IN MOTION CAN"T I STAY AN HOUR OR TWO OR MORELilyEvans-Potter DON"T LET ME LET YOU GO HERES A TOAST TO ALL THOSE WHO HEAR ME ALL TO WELL She knew that today was James day off and thought he might enjoy it with the kids or maybe the novelty of sleeping if he could manage it. Not that having a hyper eldest son who liked to take off for Siri and Maddie's house. Little Charlie who was just a book worm and of course Lilith who could get into mischief in her mother's closet all by her lonesome. The twinkle in his eye reminded her of school and Lily made a sound in the back of her throat that came out as a low groan. "Bloody hell, James...I could have broke my neck.." she muttered. "And yes I am well aware I have no sense of humor as you have told me before." she said flashing him a troubled little smile shaking her head at him. She nodded her head at that. She knew Charlie slept like the dead when he had bad dreams and crawled into bed with them. Than again as the middle child he needed a touch more attention than the oldest who wanted to test his wings--or in this case broom. Lilith who was the youngest and wanted to do tea parties and dress up games."I am actually surprised that the others weren't asleep in here with you near the fire." she admitted as she ran her fingers back through her hair dislodging her wand and catching it with her free hand to slip up her sleeve. Lily couldn't help but chuckle about the weird sisters. "Ah, now that would have been a sight, but I'd have to hex them if they played drums on my pots and pans, you know..those are how I fix meals, and since no one want Lily in her lab making dinner...its probly for the best..." which led to her next question. "Did you eat Prongs?" she asked.
One red brow arched "Liked the Quiet...who are you and where did you put James Potter?" she asked teasingly wanting to make light of the subject but worried it wouldn't help. She sighed "Well you know if you need to talk about it I am usually chasing one child or another about the house when I am not doing Dumbledore's bidding." she sighed when he said he hadn't slept well. She hadn't slept much herself. She managed to catch a few hours here and there but nothing was like it had been and she didn't know that it ever would be. Though that was just another concern to add to a growing number of bigger concerns. "You should try to sleep...when things that are not enchanted start to talk to you, you've been up to long." she offered with a shake of her head. She had dropped into her favorite chair to unbutton her boots and set them aside so she was in her socked feet. Peering up at him when he asked her if she'd been out on Order business. "Is there any other type of business these days ?" her tone soft. She got to her feet, washed her hands and set about making them both cups of tea. Setting his in front of him along with the sugar, honey and cream. "Yes." she answered glancing at him with the way he reigned himself in. They were never likely to get along she knew all to well.Enimity that had been long in creating. "Seems that very soon the Death Eaters are going to be making a move, I hope the kids are safe in School at that point, the only person in the world that the Dark Lord fears is Dumbledore, his protection would make me feel better about Harry being away from us." she said with a sigh. "I am also hoping to keep a close eye on the students by taking up Professorship as well." she said.
"What have you heard ?" she asked sipping her tea pondering how much to discuss of her conversation with Severus half way worried it would just turn into a fight. Lily took a breath and glanced up from her lashes. "I think that there going to be falling back to there normal tactics, attacking Muggles where they can, instilling fear in the common masses." she gently rubbe Snowflakes ears as the kitty curled up on her lap like she owned her. Lily supposed she did. The way she held herself cats of course always owned there witch or wizard.

Through misplaced words and a sinking feeling, I got carried away. James snickered softly and walked over to his wife. He stood behind her and played with hair, a grin forming on his face. “Oh, you have a sense of humor Lils. It’s just that it’s not as refined as mine is.” He felt her lean back and he thought she might be enjoying his hands through her hair, so he continued, ignoring for the moment the pressure above his eyes. He considered what Lily had said, and perhaps the kids would’ve liked to sleep out here with him, but he hadn’t thought much of it. He’d come home in a right foul mood and the kids knew that when Daddy was stressed, it was often best to do what you were supposed to. He felt a little bad every time he came home in a mood, but he couldn’t help it. Sometimes the trails of his days were just too stressful. “They were good tonight—they all went to bed on time. Well, except Harry, but does he ever?” He grinned and found his way back to the armchair by the fire. He closed his eyes and pictures the Weird Sisters in his Kitchen, and couldn’t help but giggle a little. He thought for the first time today about food, and realized that his stomach had been telling him something. “No, I haven’t. I wasn’t really hungry, I suppose.” He tried to minimize the situation, but knew Lily knew the extent of the problem—he rarely ate anymore. “Oh, I know you’re always here, Lils. Who else would I turn to besides my wonderful wife?” He thanked her for the tea and took a sip, adding some cream and honey beforehand. He listened to her go on about Dumbledore, and his protection—and how she wanted Harry to be as safe as he possibly could. Of course, James wanted the safe thing for his children, but he was a little more hesitant. “I trust Dumbledore—we all do, I understand that. I just wish there was a way I could secure the safety of my children. I mean, you teaching at Hogwarts really helps. I don’t know if I’d be able to send my eldest son off on his own otherwise.” He watched Snowflake in Lily’s arms and smiled. It was almost as if the cat was another child the way Lily treated him all the time. “I’ve heard what you’ve heard, really. The Death Eaters are wreaking havoc throughout the Muggle World, but it may just be my opinion they won’t stop there. Soon, they’re going to come out in the open and it’s going to be with a bang. I don’t think there’s any use worrying though—worrying doesn’t help any. The only thing we can do is do our jobs as well as we can, even if it means dealing with people our spouse’s rather dislike.” He grinned a little to make light of what he was saying. He took a sip of his tea and leaned back on the leather arm chair. “And hope and pray our children are safe. But worrying just distracts us from the bigger picture, I think. Too bad it’s hard as hell not to worry.” Tagged: Lils. Word Count: 618. Notes: Wow, that was long for me.

Her hair attracted attention where ever she was it was the first thing any of the children wanted to put in there mouth when they were tiny. It also had a habit of attracting fingers, the not quiet strait but not quiet curling locks. Lily glanced back at him when his fingers went into her hair and peered up at him with a faint little smile. "Mmmhmm..refined..is that what you call it Prongs ?" she asked him her tone a touch teasing. His fngers in her hair did elect her to lean back against him. "Harry, has a mind of his own..."{/color] she laughed softly. "He's a good boy though, and yes I figured Charlie and Lilith would be out like lights, all Lilith needs is Snowbear." she was refering to the large stuffed Polar Bear she had gotten years ago. It was still fluffy and warm. "Charlie is the quiet one." she told him. "I figure he falls asleep more often than not playing." she mused. Her fingers rising up to rub her eyes. She herself was beyond tired. She knew he didn't sleep or rather she was fairly sure of it. She wasn't often home at night. She could tell by his posture though. As he found his way back to his chair Lily made tea in the kitchen. Glancing up at the giggling. "Absolutely no Weird Sisters in my Kitchen." she called to him having a fair idea that was what brought that case of the giggles about. She had to admit that James had the oddest sense of humor or maybe it was just her's was lacking either way.
She came to the conclusion the fact he had pounding in his head like the Weird Sisters song from the way he was wincing was likely because he forgot to eat if Lily didn't nudge him. She hummed softly in the kitchen digging in the fridge and pulling out the lasanga pan and tapping her wand to it so it heated up and she served herself and piece and James one as well. "Well you know I have made spells, and charms are my specialities outside of Potions." she said. Lily had never met a Potion she couldn't brew but Charms was where she was really good. "Our children have the best protections I can give them, James." she told him. "You know I have created a spell to locate my children, and trust me when I say that anyone trying to remove my location charm will not likely live to see the sun rise." her words were low and cold. When it came to there children there was nothing she wouldn't do to protect them. "Maybe its a touch of Dark Magic as a backlash charm but its not a Unforgiveable." she added as she set up a tea tray near his chair for his hot tea and the plate of pasta. She settled onto the floor with her stocking feet near the fire to keep them warm. Her plate on her lap. "Harry won't be alone, he's got family all over the place, Sirius and Remus's brood are there to remember." she pointed out. [color=ff99ff"Pleanty enough fellow trouble makers to make sure that Dumbledore's hair stays white." she sipped her own tea at that. Glancing up at him she nodded to the food."You really should eat." she reminded him.
She listened intently to what he had heard and nodded her head faintly. "Its why I am careful when I visit Muggle London. However I know when to go and not to go." she rubbed her eyes again and glanced into the fire as it crackled. "Of course it is. However, I doubt that it will be at the School, the School is far to valueable for him. It gives him new recruits James." she said bluntly. "So that is another reason I feel there is safety there. You might have to have a discussion about making the right friends with Harry. Still I will be keeping a close eye on him just the same." she said and almost choked on her tea. "Yes, well I've a mind of my own.." she said "I will do as I see fit, I do not need permission for who I am close to and who I am not." she pointed out. "I mean Sirius and I could not stand each other in school." she reminded him. "We got on together for your sake.." she leaned back against the leather arm of his chair and laughed faintly. "Well, of course there's the fact most of my friends became Auror's and I became a house wife..I don't get to see them very often its always so busy, but it seems busy doing nothing if that makes any sense ?" she said."To worry is natural..." she observed "We do our best with what we have." her tone quiet. "You concentrate on the big picture and I will mind the children wasn't that why you became an Auror and I choose to be with the kids ?" she asked glancing upstairs listening to make sure the kids were in bed. "I am thinking to having Charlie and Lilith in my rooms while I teach when your not home. So of course they will be covered." He smirked, his hands still deep in the midst of her hair. He let his mind wander a bit as he poked fun at him, and it was no secret to him that he and his wife were growing somewhat apart this past year. He tried to make up for it—he really did. He went out of his way to provide the best for her and the children, but it still seemed like she was hiding things from him. That alone made him extremely nervous. “Yes, refined is what I’d call it. Many would object, but who are they to judge?” He gave her a winning smile, but knew deep in his heart she was somewhere else entirely. “All of our children are extraordinary, Lils. After all, they have your genes don’t they?” He knew he was sweet talking her, but sometimes he didn’t know what else to do. It was just such a habit that he had to continue. He lifted his hand to his forehead and knew the aching pain came from not eating. He had just admitted to his wife that he hadn’t had a thing all day, but he was stubborn to admit to a problem. He had never really confided in Lily the depression he was feeling over the past year, and that contributed a lot to the fact that he rarely ate. Well, that and the overbearing threat of the Dark Lord to his children. However, Lily had it under control, and he knew that. “Oh, I know you’ve got everything under the sun protecting them; I would never doubt it for a moment. But that paternal instinct, you know? Even when there’s that possibility, you freeze. Then you see your children alone and hurt, and you never want that to become a reality. So, you worry. It’s the only thing you can do.” He looked into the fire and gave a deep sigh. “Anyone willing to mess with your charms is going to have to mess with me first, I’ll promise you that.” He was always worried sick when Lily visited Muggle London. He knew she had business with Snape there on regular occasion, but he couldn’t stop thinking about what he’d do—what the children would do if she was caught in the crossfire. But, this was a war. And he had to think about these things at one point or another. He knew the kids didn’t think about it much, and he wanted to keep it that way. Any of them knowing the full scale of what was really going on—well, you wanted to keep your kids as innocent as possible for as long as possible. And that’s what he intended on doing. “Harry’s a smart boy, he knows who he should be keeping the company of. But still, a nudge in the right direction has never led me wrong.” He listened to her speak of who she could have the company of, and he nodded. “I know—I’ve long since school decided that your relationship with Snape is something I can’t begin to understand—but that I have to deal with. And I will.” His voice was hoarse now, he was growing more tired by the moment. But he couldn’t let Lily know that, no. He needed to talk to her, now more than ever. “I’m a father, I will worry,” he pointed out. “The big picture is important—but so are my kids. Just because I work everyday doesn’t mean you love them more than I.” Word Count: 619. Tagged: Lily. Notes: Nope.

----------------- Now I don't hardy know her but I think I could love herCrimson & Clover I wish wish she'd come walking over. -----------------
With all that was going on around this she thought somewhat sadly that this was the closest that they had been in a long while. Why did things fall apart the more you tried to hold onto them. That was one of those questions that truly had no answers. None that Lily had been able to find. Even with her wisdom. She felt star-crossed. "I'd say anyone who's fallen on the wrong side of your refined tastes would have an opinion." she told him with a faint chuckle. "Still attack trained trash bins, is new I admit." she said scowling in the general direction of the can that had almost sent her spilling to the floor. The willow wood wand slipped into her hand from where his fingers had dislodged it from her hair. She leveled it at the trash bin. "Repairo." she murmured getting the dent out of it she had made. All the while listening to her husband. He was falling back to being charming again, hiding not that Lily could blame him. They both put on airs it seemed. Still her answer was typical for her. "Oh, for the love of Merlin..Prongsie...that sweet talking didn't work in school or out of it." she was laughing than one hand over her face as she shook her head. 'They get intellect from me." she said. "So you can bet they'll all be Gryffindor for sure, you know thats what the hat told me...though I still think it mistakened me for a Weasley..poor old thing." she tsked "Someone ought to give that thing a vacation." than she dropped her hand. "I just can't imagine where one would send a magical hat." she added
As a mum she was use to telling when on of her children was actually sick or when they were trying to weasle there way out of something. Lily knew if she didn't sit with him that James would forget to eat. He was tall and slender to begin with. Lily was equally as worried about her children about the Dark Lord and often because she knew more than she could speak on the subject because she could not speak on it. She sighed softly "I know you worry about our children there very independant, they always have been. I mean Harry was zooming around the living room on a broom before he even knew what a birthday gift was. Sirius called that one." she said with a smile. Than shook her head "No somehow I don't think I'd freeze James, they'd have to kill me first before I'd let them harm any of the children, ours..Maddies or Cora's." she said simple. Though she did nod her head when he said that he knew she had put as many protections Under the Sun . Her toes wiggled in front of the fire and Lily sighed quietly as she did her head leaned back against the chair he was sitting in. "Oh I know. I think all parents feel that way about there children, James." she said as she sipped at the tea next to her. "Well you'll certainly know that for a fact." she said with a dip of her head "It has an alarm charm on it that would go off." she said quietly.
Lily was willing to sacrifice herself for the greater good that was just how she was. She was not looking to do that though. She wanted to live to see her children. Live to see her grandchildren. She wasn't one to act to brashly. Her trips to London were because she had come from there she enjoyed it there it reminded her of better times. Before she and Tuney had grown apart. It was streets she played in as a child. Lily still went on every day like there wasn't an unseen war being ragged. She took the kids into Diagon Alley, and she played with them. She knew he did the same. You were only a child and innocent once. It was also that Lily still had a certain child like innocents about her. She could enjoy the games of make believe. She used her Occulmens status to hide away terrible thoughts and the bad ones. It was how one go through things.
She bit her lower lip "Yes, well at least he has family at Hogwarts to look out for him, and I am fairly sure he'll do just fine." she said "I'll also keep an eye on him, and I know who to keep him away from. He usually listens to me." she said quietly. " No one understands and its rather fustrating at time. No one seems capable of understanding him as I do." she said with a shake of her head."Not that I care what anyone thinks either mind you." she added 'What will be will be." her tone low. She glanced up at him when his voice shifted and she bit her lower lip. "You sound tired James." she said shifting her attenton to him.
Her brows drew together and she tipped her head to the side You do know who your talking to right ?" she asked not to sharply though she felt stung by how he had put that. Tears gathered at the corner of her eyes. "I never said once that you did not love your children, or that I love them any more or less than you do James." her tone husky as she glanced into the fire. "The children though, have been my life since Harry was just a little one." she said "I spend more time with them...but I never doubt your love for them. I don't understand how you could say such a thing to me." Lily refused to cry in front of him though. She wiped her eyes with her flowing sleeve and got to her feet to gather her plate and cup to retreat to the kitchen for a moment to get herself together. It just felt like a smack even though it shouldn't have.
