"Hogwarts!" Astrid started up, her eyes taking on a glint of fervor that only first years seemed to manage. "I so hope I'm in Gryffindor." She confided to the older girl. Not only was Selena in Gryffindor, but that nice boy she had met in Diagon Alley- Ron- was in Gryffindor, as was Jared. "Can I... ask you a question... without you laughing at me?" Just as quickly as her enthusiasm came, it had faded into apprehension as she looked at the girl that was practically her sister.

Selena laughed at the obvious enthusiasm, remembering she had been the same way - once she found out that her condition wouldn't be an issue or prevent her from being a normal student. "I hope so too. Maybe it's a bias, but I think it's the best house - and the best fit."
The change in topics was pretty quick, so she studied Astrid's expression for a moment, trying to read into it without seeming to. It wasn't working so well, so she frowned a bit. "Yeah, ask away."

"I know you're older than me and that you've got your own friends and all..." Astrid studied a strand of her hair with undivided interest as she began to play with the ends of it. "But am I supposed to pretend like I don't know you, or what?" Astrid was used to being overlooked, but she didn't much care for it. Still, if it was what Selena wanted...

"No!" Selena answered quickly, apparently finding no need to think about her answer. "Just because I have friends doesn't mean I have to prove anything to them or act a certain way." Now wondering where something like this was coming from, her frown deepened a bit. "Why would you think something like that?"

Astrid looked relieved and nodded, her face brightening now that that fear was alieved. She blushed slightly and shrugged at the question, however. "I thought I'd give you the chance to.... you know... set the boundaries."

"It's not like I have appearances to keep up." Selena shook her head and smiled a bit at how that came across. It was no secret that she'd kept to herself during the last school year and had stuck to a small circle of friends. "Besides, if people don't like my sister hanging around, I don't want them around anyway." The family honorific usually had a way of flipping around, but she meant it as she said it this time.

Astrid laughed, a mischevious smirk coming across her face. "I'll help you make new friends- one that will make you come out of your shell. That shall be my goal for the new school year." She nodded, giving the idea serious thought. It would benefit both of them, so why not?

"I have a shell?" Looking over her shoulder as if she seriously thought that was possible - though of course she was being smart - she looked back to Astrid after a moment. "I didn't see one, and I think I'd know if I had something like that."

Astrid snorted, making a face. "You're sooo funny. Yes, you have a shell. A rather thick one, I might add. I'm going to take sandpaper to it." She nodded seriously, her eyes lighting up with determination.

"Are you sure you aren't taking lessons from my brother?" Selena glanced over with one eyebrow lifted, leaning forward to place her folded arms on her knees. "Because you're starting to sound a lot like him."

Astrid wrinkled her nose slightly and shook her head, stretching out on the couch and propping herself up by her elbows. "Well, he's sort of my brother too, so I guess that's why. I just like to think I pull it off better than Shawn."

"Just as long as you don't start dragging me around like him, we won't have a problem." She made a face at the memory of several incidents where Shawn had done just that - all because he thought she had been too anti-social. Granted, she was anti-social at times, but found it necessary. "And incidentally, you do pull it off better."

He's got it all wrong. You drag other people to you. It's hard enough work for you just to socialize, let them do the walking." She rolled her eyes but was unable to hide a smile. Though she had her moments, Astrid was nowhere near as shy as her 'sister.' She was too curious to be extremely serious.
She bowed slightly to Selena with a smirk. "Thanks. Glad to hear it."

"Cute, Astrid. Very cute." Giving a mock-glare, Selena actually had to fight to keep from smiling. She agreed, mostly as it was mortifying for her to be dragged around by her technically-younger brother, especially when he made her out to be some ragdoll that had to be prodded into moving. "I don't want him dragging me or dragging anyone to me, and I'm not as bad as you'd make me out to be. I do know how to talk to people, I just usually don't choose to do so."

Lucky for you, I'm here to help you. Besides, it's different when I'm the one doing the dragging. How can you say no to this face?"
