Set in the year 1991(and beyond), What Might Have Been is an AU approach to the Harry Potter universe. Several key events that launched the story as we know it never took place or were changed, so times are very different in the Wizarding world. Many are still alive that should be dead..and perhaps others that lived will die. However our plot ends up going, this approach will chronicle the struggles the Wizarding World will face while Voldemort and his followers launch a subversive war meant to divide families and tear them apart. The side you choose will decide what role you play in this upcoming war. Will you decide to join the Death Eaters and attempt to stage a reign of terror, will you join with the Order of the Phoenix and defend everything you know and love from darkness..or will you be one of those to choose to be Neutral and not take part in any of it? Whatever your choice may be, make it wisely...
LOCATION: Wizarding World, UK
MONTH: August
YEAR: 1991
WEATHER: Hot and humid, with frequent sudden showers and thunderstorms

*****

Only one month left until Hogwarts is back in session for the 1991-1992 school year! For many parents, sending their children back to the castle is a hard choice - rumor has it that the Death Eaters are just waiting for the perfect time to strike. What better way to get to one's enemy than through their children? The Ministry keeps up the stance that Hogwarts castle is one of the safest places to be, especially for the young and impressionable, and many new measures are being taken to make sure the students are safe. Come start of term on September the 1st, will you be among those going back for another year of fun, laughter and learning in Britain's most famous wizarding school, or will you be stuck at home being guarded by jumpy parents?

The lowest level of Hogwarts castle. Rough stone walls form many corridors and rooms and torches set in sconces are the only light to offset the gloom. Found on this level are the kitchens, Hufflepuff and Slytherin common rooms, as well as the Potions classroom.

{Hogsmeade Village}

The only all-wizarding village in Britain, Hogsmeade is located just down the road from Hogwarts. As both were founded around the same time, the school and village have always had a special relationship. The train station here is where the Hogwarts Express drops off the students at the beginning of each term, and students that are third year and above are allowed to visit the village on select Saturdays - with a permission slip, of course.

{King's Cross Station}

This Muggle railway station lies in northwest London, and is one of the busiest stations in the city. While it seems to be perfectly normal - with big plastic numbers marking out each seperate track and guards making sure things remain orderly - rumor has it that there's something special about the barrier between platform number 9 and 10..
