"There's about a dozen teenagers in training right now, and the Minister is supposedly trying to set out a larger budget for recruitment. If any of it works, it's going to be a miracle." Cynical about few things, Madison was about this subject - and with good reason. She knew the ins and outs of the current political workings, and that coupled with the recent surge in dark side activity was making a career as an Auror seem like something for those with a death wish or suicidal tendencies. "I've talked to a few people that might be interested, but they have..differences that the Ministry might not want." Rounding the couch, she sank down tiredly and pinched the bridge of her nose, taking a slow breath.

"Werewolves?" Sirius asked curiously, momentarily distracted by Maddie's tone. "Never mind. Not important. Look, Maddie, I love you, and I'm happy you're doing something you want to do- whatever- but our family can't handle you being away all the time. You've seen what Cora's lifestyle does to her family- do you really want that to be us?"

"I already said I don't want to keep this up, Sirius." Tone patient - yet weary - Madison lowered her hand and breathed a quiet laugh, starting to be struck with the absurdity of the situation. "As cathartic as it is yelling at you, I don't want this to happen again any time soon. Not on this level, anyway." Admitting that she had missed actually being able to talk to her husband wasn't something she could do yet, but it showed in her face. She had gone from sour and ready to explode back to something that was close to normal. Close, but still not there.
"Plus I'm not going to end up in the permanent ward of St. Mungo's, job doing good work or not. I'm going to see if I can share my hours with a few other people."

"Good. That's all I can ask of you." Sirius offered her a small smile and took her hand in his. As much as he wouldn't admit it, it felt better to have everything out in the open now. He didn't like fighting with Maddie. Maybe with Cora and even Lily-when she didn't ignore him completely, because then he felt bad- but Maddie, not so much. There was more feeling there, and it hurt to fight with her.
"I don't like being here without you all the time."

"Are you actually admitting that you've missed me?"Feeling better about the situation now that they had come to an agreement, Madison was confident enough to work in a bit of teasing. Twining her fingers with his, she gave a slight smirk. "Haven't heard that admission in quite a while. You feeling okay?" She was hard-pressed now not to laugh, but was going to keep it up as long as she could. Trying to move things away from the argument, she also hoped to help him loosen up a little more.

"Unfortunately, I have. It's not as much fun to cause trouble if no one's here to yell at me about it." He offered her a smile, this one void of all bitterness and anger. They would be all right, just like always. They had aired their problems and could now fix them, and then start the cycle all over. Such was the way of things.
"I'm fine. A little drunk, maybe, but otherwise fine."

Madison laughed - albeit quietly - at the admission, not in the least surprised to be hearing it. It could easily bring up the question of just how much trouble he had been causing around the house while she was busy with work, but she imagined she would discover that soon enough.
The yelling portraits all up and down the hall had come to mind, but she didn't mention them - not wanting to push her luck in two different ways. Sirius still had a short temper and bringing up his mother's portrait was pretty taboo..with good reason. That and she didn't want another yelling match to wake up said portrait. Walburga wasn't awake and screeching, so that was one good thing about the night's argument. "I actually figured out that you were drunk on my own." She gave a rather dry smile. "I have been the one hiding the extra bottles of firewhiskey lately."

"That's why you're the smart one. You can make all those deductions without the slightest word for me." He tugged on her hand, pulling her over to him and then into his lap. "I guess that makes me either the beauty or the brawn, then. Which is it?" He mused, resting his face against her arm. He had missed her smell, the feel of her, her warmth. Hopefully she would get the message and he wouldn't have to miss her anymore.
